Snowy Sunday

I've cleaned the skylight and roof off twice already!

I've fed the cats, did 2 loads of laundry, and walked Shadow!

I'm WAITING for Ray to come home from his brunch meeting, with gas for the snowblower.
It's electric start! I don't want to run out of gas and have to pull start it!
There's gotta be 6 inches out there already today!

This is Shadow, pouting in her house.
Her and I went on a road trip on Monday, and she got to go to the vets!
She got spayed, and her shots. She needs a booster in February, then she's good for the year!
And she IS NOT HAPPY!
I tried to leave the cone off, but she's a licker, and the incision won't heal if she licks it!

It was quite the road trip down too.
I DID get her in the car again by myself.
But she wanted to sit in the front.
ON.MY.KNEE!
I was so stiff from pushing her over on to her own seat!
Told her I liked it better when she was sick, and comatose on the back seat!
OH well....all's well!
I'll try to get someone to come with me when I take her for her booster shot!

So I'm perusing the Victoria condo scene, you know, case my baby ends up living over there!
I should be able to give him a heads up on the market! haha
This was an ad on the sidebar on Facebook, so I clicked on it!
I doubt that he will be impressed!

Better go!

Happy Saturday!

Guess I'm just in a good mood!
Went to my 'other' job today.
I have to take Shadow to the vet on Monday.
Nope! She's not dying this time!
She's going to get spayed and get her shots!
She doesn't know that yet, but I'm hoping to wrestle her into the car.....I KNOW it'll be a battle this time!

I came home, took Shadow for a walk.....I'm working up to 2 & 1/2 miles a day!
We got up to a mile today! Waaay better walking home...the wind was cold!
We walked every day last week, except last night! I'm aiming for at least 4 times a week.

I cleaned the snow off the skylight.

Went & fed the cats, then came in and warmed up some expired (NOT ROTTEN!) milk for them.
I DON'T drink dairy past it's due date....it's not bad, so instead of wasting it I give it to the cats!

Burnt the garbage, checked the stove, then came in and got creative!

I have to make 10 of these!

We're already planning our community Volunteer Appreciation gala for April!
We're changing it up this year, and having a movie instead of a luncheon! The volunteers will get a ticket that entitles them to a Free movie, and a Popcorn & Pop!

The people that get these will get a door prize.
I can't tell you how they'll get them!
Someone might actually read this blog...then it wouldn't be a suprise!

These are made out of old CD's!
One of my friends gave me a whole box of old CD's.
Think I could find it!?
So I looked in drawers & stuff, and found ones the kids left here.....HEY.....they've left them here....they can't be missing them now can they?!
I only need to find 2 more and I've got it made!
I just needed to see how the idea in my head looked!
The guitarist is embossed, but you can't see that here :(
The stars are embossed too, and what a pain to cut out.
You'd think with 100 punches I'd have a little star, but noooooo!
I still have to make some sort of envelope or sleeve for them, and I've got that in my head too!

Better go!

Sons, Driving, and Cards!

K will be done his first day of Boot Camp (Basic Training)!
Hell, he's probably in bed!
I'm sure he'll be fine.
I get why there's no contact with anyone in his 'other' world for 4 weeks.
The statuses on Facebook have been a little down.

You guys gotta quit that! It's what he wants to do. Don't make it hard for him!
Just be there when he needs you and support him.....Gawd....like a mother!
I AM HIS MOTHER!
I worry as much as you do.
It doesn't make it any easier, but it's his choice, and we shouldn't make him feel guilty about making it!

Let's just cheer with the great things that happen, and oh my, the bad!
But never nag tell him he should come home, cause we miss him.

Hopefully I'll be going to his graduation the end of April, beginning of May.
You guys should plan to come too.
I know we'll have to leave him again, but at least we've seen for ourselves that he.is. o.k.!

The trip to Edmonton was fun.......as kids get older....they get funnier!
REALLY!
The back seat comments cracked me up. My GPSes, map readers, etc.!
"Maybe you should've been in the left lane to turn."
"Don't worry! We're gonna fix that.......turn left at the next street."
"Ahhh, you should've been behind that semi, so you're in that lane."
"NO YOU CANNOT BACK UP ON A HIGHWAY!"
And my personal favorite:
"Gail, pick a lane!"

I've got the pics of the cards I did last week at Stamp Club.
I think I'll send this one to mom.

When we made this card, I HAD to order the stamp!

This one is just cool!

And this last one is a Christmas card one of the girls at Stamp Club made, and I thought it was lovely!

It's actually sparkley, but you can't see it!

Better go, it's still early, might be able to catch some Monday night TV.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T..........

It's been an exhausting few days.

Are you tired of hearing that yet?

Thursday, J, K & V went to Edmonton.

Friday, K had appointments at the Recruiting Centre at Canada Place.

We got to go to his swearing in ceremony.
There were 3 recruits that day.
One was re-inlisting for a Clerk.
Marie was going in to be and Naval Officer, and K's official title is "Ordinary Seaman Luck!"
hahahaha
That's where the "RESPECT" part would come in....he has a title!

It was pretty exciting to be there, and I really felt  privileged to witness it!
We cheered for all three, as Marie didn't have anyone there at all.
The Officer, (and be darned if ANY of us could remember if she was a Lieutenant or Corporal or what!) gave a really great speech, about family, basic training etc. She was genuinely enthused about the recruits that day! Almost brought a tear to my eye.

You know I do really well until they make it about US! The family at home yadda yadda!

Don't forget that our troops need all the support we can give them, so if you're so inclined, you can write to them here. We do this at the lodge sometimes, and we write to "Any Canadian Soldier" and get a list of addresses at this site.
I'll distribute K's address when we're allowed to write and send care packages!

I also told him about the 'Cards for Troops' that my cohorts in the states do.
They make blank cards for all occasions, Birthday, Mother's Day, Thinking of you, etc. and send them for the soldiers to use. It's not like they can run to the store and pick up a card for any occasion!
K, "Is there a charge for this?"
Me, "No!"

After the swearing in ceremony, there were volunteers set up at Canada Place for you to give blood.
J & K wanted to so I said OK!
V didn't want to, and had a cold besides.
I did really good, until the nurse and I got to the part about what kind of cancer I had.
She opened a HUGE binder, and said, "See, it says right there that you can't give blood."
Me, "WHAT?"
Her, "This book is compiled by physicians, and it says right here that you're a code 0900(Or whatever)."
Me, "That's crazy, I'm past the 5 year mark, who do I write to?"
Her, "Well I have to put here that you were REJECTED and why, if they change the rules they'll let you know."
I was so disappointed that the nice lady in charge of the cookies and juice for after, felt sorry for me, and I got to have cookies and juice anyway, and visit with her while we waited for the boys!

We got K on the plane to Toronto yesterday morning, and headed on the long journey home!
We were probably home before he was in Toronto, cause we left him 90 minutes before his plane took off!
I'll certainly be thinking about him, as they're allowed NO contact with anyone for the first 4 weeks.
Wish him luck!

Facebook and .....Bras!

Ladies, your red, black, pink, purple, blue, white, butterflied, cheetah printed, and clear bra colors made the channel 4 SLC news last night. Facebook doesn't know who started it going but the Susan B Kolman foundation says it was a great way to raise awareness for breast cancer. Way to go! Post this on your walls and... spread the...... word again!!

That was in some of my friends status lines yesterday!

The funny one was where some of the guys (Like my son) caught on or were told what was going on and put "nothin" Or "comando" in their status!

I thought it was a good idea, it made me smile, and was all in fun, but I've read that a lot of people didn't approve.
Mostly the guy comments I read....One said,
"You're only educating half the population."
Another said,
"Guys get breast cancer too."

I just think they were put out, didn't like that something was going on, maybe that they had no control over. Of course guys get breast cancer too, but do they wear bras? Sheesh!
I didn't participate.....I know, bad Gail, but I'm still looking to fill the casino dates for us, so my status is a desperate, pleading thing. I know....it doesn't become me, but I really need to fill 5 spots!

I DID however check out the breast cancer site, and I DID click to give a free mammogram.
I can only hope that by clicking, SOMEONE REALLY does get a mammogram, not like those e-mails that promise you money from Bill Gates or Microsoft if you pass them on.
I've heard that those e-jmails just promote the spam!?

I had my Stamp Club last night, but will post pictures later.

Taking my baby to E-town, to catch the plane to basic training this weekend.
GO K!
The kids were here for supper again last night.
Think he's gonna be missing some home cooked meals?

And I gotta go phone V. Something's up with that child!

Ta ta for now.

Ahhhhhhhh....................

Maybe that should be argh!

I'm on a roll, catching up with my tags, BD cards, blog reading etc.
The laundry's done....(Thank you Gail for unthawing the sewer!eeewwww!)

DH is parked in his chair in front of the TV.

I'm making bacon, toast and omlettes for supper.
Asked him to cook the bacon.....NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN!

Some day, I'm just going to lock myself in my craft room, and do what I want, and watch what I want ALL DAY!
Think it'd work?
Now you know why most weekends my favorite tools are the slow cooker, and bread machine!
I know he can cook.
And I LOVE cooking....just some days....you know!?

Alrighty! The Phoenix trip is booked! woohooooo!
Although thanks to some asshole suicide bomber on Christmas Day....we're not allowed carry on luggage, just a small purse.
Well, if you know me at all, you know I could go away for a weekend with the sack I haul around!
At least I quit packing my leatherman in there.....just too heavy, ya know!?
Also, when I was booking the tickets for the 3 of us, I needed birthdays!
We also need to know where we're going when we check in.
That led to a whole frenzy of e-mails, because we're actually going to stay with one of my friends who bought a house down there!
And I'm hoping they don't call her, cause she'll be on the flight with us!

So I found out my friend E. has a birthday next week, and doesn't have a very small purse either.....so I made her one.

I'm going to get a small coin purse from the $ store, and put some US change in there!
hahaha cause that'll be about all that will fit!
I made a tiny BD card to match!
Aren't they cute!?

I was just reading in a blog that if I'm only blogging for myself, I should just get a journal or use microsoft Word.
Well, this blog is on my profile page on Facebook, and is mentioned somewhere on my profile on the Fiskateer sight!
I blog for friends and family, and people I haven't even met.....they might find something interesting, and fun here.

My tags for the swap are done, and I'll be mailing them this week. Picture in previous post!

My Craft Club meets tomorrow night....so nothing will make me cranky...it's tax season, and I've done 48 T-4's at my other job! Lordy......we gotta change that! It's the seasonal work!

Ya Know Yur a Redneck When.......

Yur sewer freezes up!

YUP! BIG TME!

Ray had just gone to work on Tuesday, and I was in the shower and had just put shampoo in my hair, when the tub started filling up......*horrors!

Fastest shower I ever had!

Called Ray on his cell, and said, "Don't fool around tonight when you're done work, the sewer's froze!"

So Tuesday when I got home from work, I crawled under the trailor.
Found a heat tape, NOT ATTACHED TO ANYTHING AT ALL!
Don't know what that was about!
But put that on the miles of pipe under there, and found a new one in the pump house and put that one on.
Ray got home, and took his heat gun under there.
No such luck.

Our maintenance guy at work is a plumber.
Wednesday when I got to work, I told him what happened, and said, "It feels like I crawled 16 miles last night!"
R., "Gail, I'm a plumber."
Me, "OH yeah, no sympathy there I guess!" lol

Thursday, I went under there with the heat gun, and did the last 3 miles 20 feet of pipe.
The pipes were cracking, like they were unthawing, so I worked at it for 3 hours.
Nothin!

I told R. at work that I couldn't do dishes, laundry, diddly.
R., "I think You're a PRINCESS."
Me, "If I were a PRINCESS I'd a called a freakin plumber!"

Yesterday was Breakfast Club at the OFH, so I get off early. Usually I go to my 'other' job for a few hours.
Instead, I bought another heat tape, to put on the last 3 miles 20 feet of pipe that didn't have heat tape on.
I came home to put it on while it was still light out.
I put the new one on, rerouted one that I'd put on Tuesday, then started the waiting game.

Kids came last night to play games.
We played Monopoly, and Taboo.
At one point in the evening, I excused myself to use the washroom.
K, "Get out of there, that's our bathroom, use your own."
Me, "Love to, but the whole end is froze up!"

This morning decided to go to my 'other' job.
Cause I couldn't do laundry, dishes, diddly!
Came home, and Ray was just home ahead of me. He'd stopped in town and rented a fan and a small herman nelson. Don't know what they're really called, but it's a heater.
I went into our bathroom, and the water was out of the tub!
So the dishes are done in the sink, and the dishwasher, bathroom is clean, and I did 2 loads of laundry.
When the first one was in, I went outside to see if I could hear the water going into the septic tank.
I. UNTHAWED. THE. SEWER. ALL BY MYSELF!
All the way to the tank BABY!

I figure I earned my first year of plumbing apprenticeship!

Sooo, got a few pictures for you.

Isn't the hoar frost beautiful!?
This tree's been leaning over the road since we had the freezing rain early in the fall!
Here are the Tags for the Swap. I have to make one more, people keep joining!

There wasn't a theme, we were just supposed to be creative...thing is I put all my stuff away, cause I thought I had enough. Now I'll haul it out to make one more!
I used up some of my scrap card stock!

Better go, getting tired, and I have another craft on the go! I'll post a pic next time!

Baby It's Cold Outside!

It's supposed to be warming up though!
Only -4C by Friday!

We went shopping to PR today.
Got my groceries for the next 3 weeks!

It's  a shame, we only have one grocery store in town, and the sky is the limit for pricing.
Let me tell you my dog food story....just in case I haven't told you to your face.

Shadow needed food. She'll eat Alpo, Ol' Roy, Pedigree etc.
We don't feed her Mainstay, cause there's nothing nutrutious in it, and we like her.
(Same mutt I took to the vet!)
Anyhoo, I purchased a bag in town, at the hardware store. Cost me just over 50 bucks with the GST.
That same bag of dog food, and ANY store south of here is at least $20.00 cheaper.
20 Bucks!
That ONE ITEM pays for my gas to drive an hour away to do my shopping! And that's JUST the dog food!
Thank you for shopping locally!

I love the bargin bins! Bread, vegies, just stuff....Ray's sister won't get bargin bin items!?

I was going to break out the snow blower and move some snow....our paths are slowly all looking like snowy yard!
Guess there's tomorrow!
The Christmas stuff is put away for another year.
Just the cheerful Snowmen are left, and they get to stay until the Easter Bunny needs to make an appearance; and THAT is often when there's STILL snow!

I'm going to e-mail the kids and tell them I'm making Baked Pasta tomorrow.
K is only here for another few weeks!

I took a pic of the snow couple outside on a timer.

Aren't they just so happy out there in the cold!?

The kids got me this awesome centerpiece, which by the way still looks pretty damn good. And some wine with gold flecks in it, which led to the conversation on game night Monday......somebody mentioned something about I wonder if your SH&% glows when it comes out the ....you know!

Ray & I also got tickets to go see Charlie Pride.
We've seen him, but really enjoyed it!

Monday when the kids came out, we played Taboo. It is hilarious, and hard!
It gives you a word, and then words you CAN'T say to give hints to your team!
Also, NO gestures or noises! It was great fun!

Better go, I'm behind in my laundry now, and I have some tags to make for a swap I'm in.

Ta ta for now!
